Slow and Painful Trial 6th amendment In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

  2. 6th amendment • Allowed speedy trial • Allowed witnesses • Can defend yourself in court • Have a jury deliberate if you are innocent • Williams VS Florida Court case 1970’s about a tried thief • The thief claimed his 6th amendment was violated • The court ruled him guilty • This case established that you don’t need 12 Jurors • The court said 6 jurors satisfy the 6th amendment • Burch VS Louisiana • This case about jury size 1979 • The court ruled that 6 jurors was a unanimous decision and unconstitutional
