  2. Robert Cavelier de La Salle • In 1666 he sailed to France • He used a canoe to go down the Mississippi. • He named Louisiana for France. • He sailed with a couple more than 200 people. • When they got there they missed the mouth of the Mississippi River and were 500 miles to the West.
