  4. Let’s try the first article, it’s a 100% hit! Click on the blue heading to select the article.

  6. Find out more about Jazz. Search for words within the article. Select to view illustrations. Click here to hear sounds. Select to go to external Internet links. This will take you back to the original article.

  8. Let’s try a search for Mozart. To search for music examples written by Mozart, select ‘People’.

  9. Select ‘Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus’ from the list.

  10. You can select a piece of music by clicking on the icon.

  11. To play the piece click on the button. Example of music using ‘Scorch plug in’.

  12. You can use the ‘Explore’ feature to filter: Composers Performers Printers and Publishers Writers Some of the many categories you can search by: Date Musical Genre (Blues, Folk, Rap, Operetta) Type of Singer (Alto, Bass, Soprano) Instrumentalists (Flautists, Drummers, Pianists)

  13. Select ‘Biographies’ from the Explore Menu. Let’s search for a pop group.

  14. You can select ‘Performers’ from here.

  15. Select ‘Popular genres’.

  16. Next select a performer within Popular genres. Let’s choose ABBA!

  17. Remember, to find more information about ABBA you can use the navigation options.

  18. How do I search for Sopranos who were born in Sydney between 1920 and 1950? Using the ‘Biographies’ search, you can refine by exactdates, towns or cities….

  19. Select ‘Biographies’ from the Advanced Search Menu.

  20. Type the dates in here... …then sydney in here... 1920-1950 sydney soprano ...and ‘soprano’ in here.

  31. You can search by country, city, frequency or by the founding date of the festival!

  32. Grove Music Online also offers many other fantastic features!

  33. For example... Works-lists - Search by type, title or city and date of performance. Full Text Search- This includes concept, pattern and boolean searches. Search for abbreviations within text using ‘Find abbrevs’ within an article. Remember, you can use the icon at any time!
