  1. Welcome to World Religion. Find your desk. Put everything on the floor but paper and a pen. DO NOW #1: Write down all of the religions that you know. Include everything you think of as a religion. You have 3 minutes.

  2. DO NOW #2: On the same paper, write a definition of religion that would include everything on the board that you think is a religion. 4 minutes.

  3. DO NOW #3: Now find one partner and rewrite your definition so that it is the best of both definitions. You should both have it on your paper.

  4. DO NOW #4: 4 minutes Help me get to know youTake a blank paper from the front. Please answer these questions on the paper & don’t put your name on them unless you really want to. You will turn this in, but not for a grade. What religion do your parents believe in, if any? How well do your parents know that religion do you think? Do you have any religious beliefs? If so, what? How well do you know your religious beliefs? Do you think it is worthwhile to study other religions? If so, why?

  5. DO NOW #5 – 2 minutes Below are 8 statements. Write “n” for normative, “d” for descriptive. Hindus regard the Vedas as their scripture. Moses received the ten commandments. According to Judaism, Moses received the ten commandments. Buddhists monks should not sleep on high or wide beds. The Bible is the Word of God. Muhammad was God’s messenger. Muslims believe the Koran was given by God. Zen Buddhist meditation can bring insight that leads to awakening of the mind..

  6. DO NOW #6 – 8 minutes Take a paper on the front desk. Read it. Answer questions on back. We will discuss when done.

  7. Take a sheet of paper with a reading on it from the front. Read it and answer the question. Reading is “Yoruba Creation Myth” with link available on website. Questions on the 2nd page. DO NOW #7 – 7 minutes

  8. We will watch clips from a video from Africa. (Jaglavak) As you watch, make at least 5 notes of things that are related to African Traditional Religion. DO NOW #8 –

  9. Groups Read & distill article – look for details that compare/contrast to what we’ve said about ATR Share with class about your reading Discuss together DO NOW #9 –
