  1. HUMOROUS INTERPRETATION • Each contestant will present a memorized selection, which is humorous in nature. It may be a cutting from a play, short story or novel. This is an exercise in acting and physical movement is encouraged. The selection should include one or more characters and have a memorized introduction. A chair or stool may be used. The time limit is five minutes with no minimum and a 30 second grace period. • (A GRACE PERIOD IS EXTRA TIME ALLOWED TO THE CONTESTANT TO COMPLETE HIS OR HER PERFORMANCE BEFORE HE OR SHE IS DISQUALIFIED FOR GOING OVERTIME.)

  3. DUET-ACTING • A group of two contestants will present a memorized scene from a short story, play, or novel. The scene should be as equally divided as possible among the contestants. Props and costumes ARE NOT ALLOWED.   4. POETRY INTERPRETATION • This event consists of reading and interpreting a selection prepared before hand by the contestant. The term interpretation is defined here as the process of communicating orally the intellectual and emotional content of the poem while reading the poem itself. It may be a single poem, a cutting, or a series of poems on a related theme or by the same poet. The selection must be read from a manuscriptand a memorized introduction should be used. Only movements from the waist up are allowed.
