Les verbes en - er. 5000 –er verbs !!!. They are called REGULAR verbs because about 5000 verbs have the same endings. It’s a good idea to learn the pattern of the verb endings by heart !!!. Les formes. The stem is found by dropping the – er from the infinitive (which is in the dictionary)

  5. ATTENTION !!! • Note that je becomes j’ before a vowel. • J’étudie le français. • J’adore le français.

  6. ATTENTION!!! • Although there are five written endings for –er verbs, only two are pronounced: those for nousand vous. • ALL OTHER ENDINGS ARE SILENT.

  8. Prononciation • Liaison occurs when nous, vous, ils, and elles are followed by a verb beginning with a vowel. • Nous écoutons • Vous étudiez • Elles adorent

  9. Notez! • A simple (one word) present tense is used in French to express actions in progress: • Nous écoutons la radio = We are listening to the radio. • As well as habitual actions: • Nous écoutons la radio dans la voiture =We listen to the radio in the car.
