Hercules. Presented by: Leah Mathews. Tale of Hercules . He was born of Zeus and a mortal woman (Alcmene). For most of his life Hera hated him; when he was a baby she sent two serpents to kill him (he killed them). When he was older she drove him mad and he killed his wife and kids.

Tale of Hercules • He was born of Zeus and a mortal woman (Alcmene). • For most of his life Hera hated him; when he was a baby she sent two serpents to kill him (he killed them). When he was older she drove him mad and he killed his wife and kids. • In order to be pardoned for this he had to complete twelve tasks (The 12 Labors of Hercules). • He killed himself because he was in agony from a love potion which his second wife gave him. • Hera finally took pity on him and brought him up to Mount Olympus.
Prominent Qualities Hercules’ effect on the Greek’s view of their World • As a demigod, Hercules was born with superhuman strength. • He was very heroic, and he used his strength to protect people. • Hercules was worshipped as a god (even though he was properly a hero). • He was associated with protection and anything involving strength.
Modern Culture and Hercules. • Something that is very difficult to perform could be called herculean. Example: a herculean task is a job that requires a lot of effort to complete. • Hercules was the hero in a 1997 animated film by Disney. • Hercules is mentioned in the book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. • Hercules Inc. is a chemical and munitions factory in Wilmington, Delaware. • Hercules is a city in California.
