Presentation WP6: THERMAL TREATMENT WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Short recall of the objectives • Development of a general procedure of data collection for evaluating the efficiency of thermal treatment plants (TTPs) D21 • Data collection from several TTP D22 • Modeling thermal treatment able to be used for different plant feeds and effluent forecasting (existing TTP and new incinerators to be built) D23 WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Problems encountered for the different parts of the modeling WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Main components in our model of Thermal Treatment Plants • (Waste pretreatment system) • Furnace & Boiler system • Flue gas cleaning system WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Classification of furnace systems • The following TTP systems were decided by the AWAST team to be a part of the study: • Grate Furnace systems • Fluidized Bed (FB) Furnace systems • Cement Plant Incineration systems WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Flue gas cleaning systems • Dry cleaning • Semi-dry cleaning • Wet scrubbing WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Modeling parameters • The components will be modeled with respect to: • Thermal energy generation and losses • Mass flow analysis with respect to the selected elements: C, N, S, Cl, F, P, Fe, Al, Pb, Zn, Cd and Hg • Utility usage (water, additives, air, electricity etc.) WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
USIMPAC overall model TTP WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Furnace + Boiler (workshop) WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Flue gas cleaning (workshop) WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Results according to the two main uses of the simulator WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Design of a new system • TTP database containing (D22): • Collected data from TTPs • Data from available literature • Models under development: • Overall model • Furnace + Boiler model (workshop) • Flue gas cleaning model (workshop) WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
Optimization of an existing plant • Variables that can be changed by the user: • Amount, characteristics and chemical composition of: • Waste • Flue gas • Bottom & filter ash and/or filter cake • Cleaned flue gas WP6 Trondheim 20th June 2002
