EGU Work Program and policies • Airspace • Transponders • Radios • Operations • Licensing • Medical • Airworthiness • Environment
Europe Air Sports (all air sports) JAA Eurocontrol European Commission EGU Sporting matters Regulatory matters The context IGC/FAI NAC/NGA The glider pilot
Licensing • Most European countries have ICAO licenses • UK has a “ICAO-like” license • Many other countries have non-ICAO compliant licenses • The EGU policy is that ICAO is a low level standard, that forms a fine basis • The rights related to the license are different in each country • Medical requirements are not included here
Airspace • A new airspace structure to replace the current 7 classes is under way • The situation is gradually worsening in European countries • The EC Commissioner for Sports and Culture has been contacted by EAS, and has assured that she will raise our case • Environmental factors may help us due to 0-growth requirements to airports
Transponder and Radio • 8.33 kHz is not an immediate threat • The Mode-S transponder is ! • Eurocontrol do not understand us • EAS do not support the powerless aviation in the mode-S question • Please try to make agreements on the national level ASAP, to give us examples that can be used in the debate
Medical • Most European countries have ICAO Class-2 requirements • Very few countries have JAA requirements • UK and many other countries have requirements less than ICAO • There is no clear EGU policy on the area, however we are against the JAA medical • ICAO may reduce Class-2 requirements
