  1. Spatial Filtering with a multibeam receiver. Radio frequency interference removal through the application of spatial filtering techniques on the Parkes Multibeam receiver. Jonathon KoczSwinburne University of Technology

  2. Spatial Filtering

  3. Parkes Multibeam Experiment

  4. Results 8MHz bandwidth, 32kHz channels

  5. Results 8MHz bandwidth, 32kHz channels

  6. Results 8MHz bandwidth, 32kHz channels

  7. Vela 8MHz bandwidth, 16kHz channels

  8. Problems! Interference Free Before Subtraction After Subtraction (One timestep = 1ms)

  9. Vela - Polarized Interference Free (SNR: 28.91) Before Subtraction After Subtraction (SNR: 16.54) (One timestep = 1ms)

  10. Risks! Interference Free (SNR: 28.91) Interference free, after subtraction (One timestep = 1ms)

  11. Vela - Polarized Interference Free (SNR: 28.91) Before Subtraction After Subtraction (SNR: 20.86) (One timestep = 1ms)

  12. Limitations and moving forward • AGC – Need new data path • BPSR & CASPSR • Data rate – Only process subsets?

  13. Conclusions • Spatial filtering with a multibeam receiver is highly effective. • SNR recovered to 70% of the interference free case. • New system: larger bandwidth, digital data path (no AGC!), real-time processing.
