  2. Origin • Can be traced back to biblical times • Main source of light (until electricity)

  3. Origin • Used for many traditions and holiday’s

  4. Past waxes • Tallow • Beeswax • Bayberry • Paraffin

  5. Tallow • In Egyptian and Roman times it was made from tallow (this was extracted from cattle) • Rinse and trim 5 lbs. of tallow • Put pieces in boiling water • Then dip or pour your candle

  6. Beeswax • Easier method—Requires no heat • Take beeswax sheets and wrap around wick • Trim around candles and then you have your finished product

  7. Bayberry • Originated in England • Discovered by trying to rid of tallow (it had a bad smell and less burning time)

  8. Paraffin • Early settler’s used this type of wax • Still used today and most popular now

  9. Materials • Paraffin wax chips • Tin can • Large Pot • Wax paper

  10. Materials • String of wick • Ruler or thin stick • You can also add color wax and/or fragrance to your candle

  11. Step 1 • Boil ¼ full of your pot with water

  12. Step 2 • Place tin with wax chips in boiling water

  13. Step 3 • Tie wax to ruler (stick)

  14. Step 4 • Dip wick in melted wax

  15. Step 5 • Pull wick out of wax and let drip, then dip in bottle of room temperature water

  16. Step 6 • Continue until you get your desired length and width

  17. Step 7 • After dipping until desired lengths set in water for 5 to 10 min.

  18. Step 8 • Now, cut your candles wick
