Alternative Energy • Alternative energy is a term that refers to methods of generating energy that are not the usual method.
Examples of Alternative Energy • Bio-Fuels • Solar Energy • Wind Energy • Hydro-Electric • Fossil Fuels • Nuclear Power • Chemical Energy • Wave Power • Tidal Power • Nuclear Fission
Bio-Fuels • Bio-fuel is defined as solid, liquid or gaseous fuel obtained from relatively recently lifeless or living biological material.
Solar Energy • Solar energy is the radiant light and heat from the Sun that has been harnessed by humans since ancient times using a range of ever-evolving technologies.
Wind Energy • Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as electricity, using wind turbines.
Hydro-electric • Hydroelectricity is electricity generated by hydropower. For example, the production of power through use of the gravitational force of falling or flowing water.
Fossil Fuels • Fossil fuels are fuels formed by natural resources such as anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms.
Nuclear Power • Nuclear power is any nuclear technology designed to extract usable energy from atomic nuclei via controlled nuclear reactions.
Chemical Energy • Chemical thermodynamics is the study of the interrelation of heat and work with chemical reactions or with physical changes of state within the confines of the laws of thermodynamics.
Wave Power • Wave power is the transport of energy by ocean surface waves, and the capture of that energy to do useful work — for example for electricity generation, water desalination, or the pumping of water (into reservoirs).
Tidal Power • Tidal power, sometimes called tidal energy, is a form of hydropower that converts the energy of tides into electricity or other useful forms of power.
Nuclear Fission • In nuclear physics and nuclear chemistry, nuclear fission is a nuclear reaction in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts, often producing free neutrons and lighter nuclei, which may eventually produce photons (in the form of gamma rays).
