  1. Mind Streaming • Each group will have two partners (A&B) • Partner A will discuss the topic for 30 seconds (continuously) & partner B will remain quiet • Then, partner B will discuss the topic for 30 seconds without partner A interrupting • What’s the topic???????

  2. DNA Molecules

  3. Double Helix • Independent reading: “think about” How a double helix is formed??? What factors should be considered??? • Read: BIO I: “The Structure of Nucleotides & The Structure of DNA” (p. 282 – 283) HONORS: Start DNA Nucleotides (p.197) through DNA Models (p.199)

  4. Sketch A STRAND of DNA • Include: the nitrogen bases • Guanine • Thymine • Adenine • Cytosine • Sugar: Deoxyribose & Phosphate Group Hydrogen Bonds & Covalent Bonds • HONORS (p. 197) BIO I (p. 284)

  5. Make A HUMAN STRAND of DNA

  6. Group Discussion • Go back to your two partner group • Partner B will discuss the topic for 1 minute (continuously) & partner A will remain quite • Then, partner A will discuss the topic for 1 minute without partner B interrupting • What is the topic????????? • What did you learn? • Was it easier to discuss the topic the second time around? Why? DNA Molecules

  7. What have I learned? • Independent work assignment • Gather your thoughts “purify your mind” • Write 5 - 10 sentences using these terms in the correct context: • Double helix • DNA Replication • Interphase • Adenine, Guanine, Thymine, & Cytosine • Deoxyribose • Phosphates • Nitrogen Bases • Sugar molecule • Chromosome • Nucleotide When you have finished raise your hand; share what you have written. Learn it! Live it! Love it!

  8. Make a DNA Strand • Given 6 Pairs of Nucleotides “NEATLY” • Cut out each Nucleotide (do not cut on the dotted lines) • Color: • Deoxyribose – yellow • Phosphates – orange • Thymine – purple • Adenine - green • Guanine – red • Cytosine – blue • Fold computer paper in “Gate/Door” • Make two Codons: arrange the nucleotides into the appropriate order (A & T ; C & G) • “Flip it” “Move it” “Align it” • Glue it to the outside “doors” of the GATE 
