  2. La Chandeleur • A holiday celebrated in France, which commemorates the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple.

  3. Candlemas, in English • A special time to celebrate the presentation of Jesus by lighting candles, to represent Jesus as the light of the world.

  4. History • Pope Gelasius I instituted the holiday in 492 to replace the Roman Lupercalian feast on February 15. In Latin, the holiday was called, la festa candelarum.

  5. French Chandeleur Proverbs • There are all kinds of French proverbs and sayings for Chandeleur; here are just a few.
