  1. Building a Better Podcast By Carrie Carpri

  2. Be Prepared • Organization is key • Requires a beginning, middle, and conclusion • Begins with a standard lesson • Research information in the library

  3. Site seeing • Proper use of digital cameras • Choosing the right cameras

  4. Focus on Sound • All presenters must sound good • Using a microphone vs. recording studio • Filter background noises (fashion a recording studio) • Software solutions to smooth out voice level differences (possibly The Levelator) • Use of Soundzabound, Royaltyfreemusic.com, and The Music Bakery to incorporate music legally

  5. Edit Wisely • Better to record first and edit later • Podcasts for students need to be less than 15 minutes • Use of software to edit- ex)GarageBand (http://www.ehow.com/how_4451191_edit-music-garageband.html ) • Naming the podcast is critical

  6. Fears of Podcasting • Podcasts including short interviews with teachers on how they use technology in the classroom • Workshops geared towards learning technology tools • Example of a Podcast in a 1st grade class: http://web.mac.com/gberthiaume/iWeb/Site/Podcast/Podcast.html

  7. Be Consistent • Doing a bunch of podcasts makes it something the students look forward to • Commit to recording a certain number during the year and include them with lesson development • Highlight at the beginning of the school year which parts of the curriculum might lend themselves to podcasts

  8. Follow the Leaders • Study what others are doing using The Education Podcast Network • Ask others what they are listening to
