  2. Definition • A participle is a verb that acts as an adjective. It describes a noun or pronoun. • The exhausted campers slept well. • Exhausted is a verb that is describing the campers.

  3. DANGER! • A participle can be the past tense of a verb, or the present tense. Creaking or creaked. • Don’t get confused between a Gerund which ALWAYS ends in “ing,” and a Participle, which CAN end in “ing.”

  4. How do I find it? • Use these simple steps! • Find all of the verbs in the sentence. • Ask yourself, “do any of the verbs describe a noun or a pronoun?”
