  1. The map of Siena and its history

  2. The origins of Siena Many legends exist about the origin of Siena. The most famous one says that in the 8° Cent. B.C. Senius and Ascanius, sons of Remus, ran away from Rome.

  3. They ran far away, and finally stopped when they reached the Tressa river. Then they built a castle they called Castelvecchio and slowly a city began to grow up around it.

  4. Later it became part of the great Roman Empire and during the rule of Octavius Augustus it was a military colony called Saena Iulia.

  5. Even today the names of some streets help us understand what the city might have been like in the time of Romans. The most importants are Via delle Terme and Via delPorrione, which means emporium in latin and here there must have been a market!

  6. Under the Lombards,Italy was crossed from the north down to Rome by an important road that was called the Francigena because it came down from France. This way was crossed by knights, merchants, pilgrims and also robbers.

  7. This is why Siena is called the “ daughter of theroad”!

  8. The manifesto of water the houses of water

  9. The CLEAR WATER is the result of diplomatic work, scientific, human, cultural, social and economic development of the International Organizing Committee for the World Water Contract. The contract is the answers to the most urgent and alarming problem that really covers ALL humanity: WATER

  10. The function of the Water Manifesto is precisely to set in motion a process that, over the next twenty years, should allow, on the basis of cooperation and solidarity, to solve the causes of the three major crises that make up the world of water problem: • THE LOSS OF ACCESS TO DRINKING WATER FOR 1,4 BILLION OF PEOPLE • THE DISTRIBUTION AND THE DETERIORATION OF WATER RESOURCES AS A FUNDAMENTAL EARTH AND ECOSYSTEM OF LIFE. • ABSENCE OF RULES WORLD.

  11. The house of water is a closed chamber (existing or specially made) in which are installed equipment for water treatment, cooling and addition of carbon dioxide. The dispensers are located on an outer side of our city and open to the public.

  12. HOUSES OF WATER IN SIENA In the city of Siena we have some houses of water. We have visited three of them: • Tognazza; • San Marco; • Acqua calda.

  13. We asked some people if they knew the houses of water. Many of them don’t know about that. With these interviews we obtained some data. Now we try to answer to some questions, which we have done to the people:

  14. Do you know what are the houses of water? Many people don’t know what are the houses of water. One man told us: “WHAT ARE THESEHOUSES?”. We explained to the people who didn’t know the houses of water what they are, and we continued the interview… Are they helpful? The major part of them said that they are too important and helpful; one in particular said that it would be great if the houses of water were in the city centre.

  15. Do you use them? Nobody of the people we interviewed uses he houses of water, and one old man said: IO BEVO IL VINO. IL VINO FA SANGUE, L’ACQUA FA RUGGINE ;) (I drink wine. Wine makes blood and water makes rust)

  16. How many people, in your opinion, don't know the houses of water?
