What Is GRE? Let’s start with the first set of slides
The Educational Testing Service, also known as ETS, created and conducts the GRE General Test. This is a standard exam that analyzes a student’s general academic ability for graduate study. There are mainly two types of GRE • GRE General test • GRE Subject test GRE General test The GRE General Test gives information about students’ reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing abilities, helping selection committees get a more detailed understanding of their abilities. GRE Subject test The GRE Subject Tests are academic tests that measure your level of knowledge in a particular area of study. They are created for students who have a strong base in one of the following fields from their undergraduate studies:
According to the ETS, the GRE syllabus 2022 covers the three sections of the exam. • Verbal Reasoning • Quantitative Reasoning • Analytical Writing Let us discuss all three sections of the GRE exam to understand the GRE exam syllabus 2022.
Verbal Reasoning This section helps to measure the student’s ability to analyze and find conclusions from the question, reason from incomplete data, identify the writer’s assumptions and perspective, select important points, understand the structure of a text, differentiate minor and major points, understand the meanings of words, summarize text, understand relationships among words and concepts. Quantitative Reasoning The quantitative reasoning section of the exam analyzes the test taker’s ability to understand things, evaluating, and analyzing quantitative data, as well as for using mathematical models to solve problems and apply fundamental maths skills and concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics.
Analytical Writing This section measures the test taker’s ability to write or generate complex ideas effectively and clearly. Also, it checks the test taker’s ability to write relevant supporting ideas with relevant reasons and examples. This includes two different time bounded analytical writing tasks of 30-minutes each • Analyze an Issue • Analyze an Argument
