  3. This law divided the Northwest Territory into smaller territories and provided guidelines under which new states could be admitted into the union.

  15. A key economic center of the country by 1814 • It’s ports made it a major center for shipping and trade, as well as an arrival point of foreign immigrants.

  17. Completed in 1825. • Provided a new shipping route form lake Erie to the Hudson River. • It also helped make New York City a dominant commercial center by connecting it to the Great Lakes.

Stated That… • The United States would not tolerate European intervention in the affairs of any independent nation in the Americas • American continents were no longer open to European colonization • The United States would view any further attempts to colonize them as acts of aggression • The president promised that the United States would not interfere in the internal affairs of other American countries, nor in those of European nations.
