Peace Through Development What is it? • It uses the Musrenbang planning tool. • Musrenbang - participatory bottom-up consultation that feeds into the preparation of the government’s annual planning. • MusrenbangPlus incorporates peace-building and conflict-sensitive principles into the process. • Social conflict managementmechanisms and programmes leading to increased tolerance and social cohesion. Why is it important? • Conflicts can negatively impact development gains • Wider participation can minimize the potential for conflict • Potential to foster a more just and equitable allocation of resources
How it Works: • Assisting the government to enact policies and regulations at the national and sub-national levels. • Integrating conflict sensitivity in decision-making through mechanisms that encourage pro-active involvement. • Supporting the development of the Law on Social Conflict Management and the formulation of accompanying regulations.
Key Results • Enactment of the 2012 Social Conflict Management Law → Indonesia is the first country to enact such a law • Enacted 11 local regulations on Musrenbang Plus with 272 villages adopting Musrenbang Plus. • Formulated medium-term development plans (RPJM Desa) for 89 villages. • 1,329 government officials (23% of whom are women) and 1,099 citizens (40% of whom are women) trained in conflict sensitive planning. • 729 Musrenbang Plus Facilitators (28% of whom were women) trained. • 527 village cadres trained in Musrenbang Plus
