  2. Google Apps for Education • Google provides an integrated suite of applications. Collectively, they are known as Google Apps for Education (GAE). • Everyone is familiar with email. Gmail is the Google email application we will use in FSUSD. • We are retiring GroupWise, Novell’s email application. • You may access your GMail account 24X7 from • Work • Home • Smart phone

Synchronizing passwords • Synchronizing passwords is part of tech survival. • When in district, you will have to login with your Novell username and password • We have developed a utility for you to sync your passwords between Novell and Gmail. • https://password.fsusd.org(Remember the “s” on https: It stand for secure) • Enter your current Novell password • Enter your new password (it can be identical to old) • Re-enter your new password • Your passwords are synched!

  5. GMail • Once you login to your Gmail accountadmin@fsusd.orgyou will find that EVERYTHING has been migrated over from GroupWise: • Emails with Cabinet structure • Calendar • Contacts (that is, your Address Book) • You will also find lots more…

  7. Switching between Apps • You were just in GMail, the Google email application. • Notice that there is a MENU at the upper left: • Mail • Calendar • Documents • Sites • Video • More… • Contacts (hidden under “More”)

  8. Calendar It is easy to switch between applications. Simply click on the appropriate App in the Menu Now let’s try your Google Calendar application Everything that you had in your GroupWise Calendar has been migrated to your Google Calendar.

  9. Documents It is easy to switch between applications. Simply click on the appropriate App in the Menu • Now let’s try your Google Documents application • Unlike your Mail or Calendar, there is nothing in it yet. • All of your saved documents are still safely tucked away in your Home directory. • You still have access to your home directory while in district • You can upload any folders from your desktop or “H” drive to Google Docs. However, your browser must be either Chrome or Firefox. IE does not support folder uploads.

Document types You are in the Google Documents application • Click on the Create new drop-down menu button in upper left of your window, below the FSUSD logo. • Types of Google Docs. • Word processing • Presentation • Spreadsheet • Form (conduct surveys; give tests) • Drawing • Collection (equivalent to a Folder)

  12. Contacts It is easy to switch between applications. Simply click on the appropriate App in the Menu • Now let’s try your Google Contacts application • You will find Contacts buried under the More option in the Menu • All of your Address Book contacts from Novell GroupWise have been imported!! • If you want, you can import or export additional contacts. • Do you have a smart phone? You can sync your contacts between Google and your phone just like synchronizing your Facebook contacts.

  16. Student accounts • Students will automatically have Gmail accounts. They will have full access to Google Apps for Ed. • This offers great opportunities for students to use 21st century collaboration tools. Teachers and students can now interact and work electronically, anytime, anyplace. • Student account • Username: s123456@fsusd.org( “s” + 6-digit Aeries Perm ID.) • Password: 8-digit date-of-birth (mmddyyyy) • Passwords can be reset by teacher
