What is an Energy Recovery Module? The module uses an Air Exchange ERC energy recovery wheel to recovery waste heat/cooling from the exhaust air stream and transfer it into the supply air stream.
ERC Energy Recovery Wheel • Desiccant energy recovery wheel • Wheel shall be constructed of a light weight polymer • Individual removable “Pie” wheel segment • Both the supply and exhaust air are filtered prior to entering the wheel.

Frost protection • Low temperature lockout • On/Off Frost Control • Electric pre-heat frost protection.
1. Plot indoor (1) and outdoor(3) design. 2. Draw indoor tangent to saturation. 3. Draw pre-heat process line which crosses 80% RH at control setpoint (-2.2OF). 4. Lines (4) cross at pre-heat temperature. 5. Capacity is OA to pre-heat delta (8.4F). 6. Objective is to move the process line away from the saturation curve How to tell if you need frost protection and how much.
Can down sizes mechanical heating and cooling. • Reduced building operation cost. • Utility rebates • New ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Reasons to get an ERMS

Installation • The ERMS unit is designed to connect directly to the RBI PV/RT/AH unit without the need for additional transitions or field modification • See IOM for full installation instructions • ERMS will require a separate power supply.
1. By hand, turn wheel clockwise (as viewed from the pulley side), to verify wheel turns freely through 360º rotation. 2. Before applying power to drive motor, confirm wheel segments are fully engaged in wheel 3. With hands and objects away from moving parts, activate unit and confirm wheel rotation. Wheel rotates clockwise (as viewed from the pulley side). 4.) Cassettes ship from the factory with the seals fully back. To adjust the diameter seals, loosen diameter seal adjusting Screws. Using a folded piece of paper as a feeler gauge, position paper between the wheel surface and diameter seals. Adjust seals towards wheel surface until a slight friction on the feeler gauge (paper) is detected when gauge is moved along the length of the spoke. Retighten adjusting screws and recheck clearance with “feeler” gauge. Start-up Procedure 5. Start and stop wheel several times to confirm seal adjustment and to confirm belt is tracking properly on wheel rim (approximately 1/4” from outer edge of rim).
Purge Adjustment If the cassette has a purge you Would use the same adjustment strategy As a normal diameter seal Start-up Procedure Cntd… To determine proper purge angle setting Please refer to the AIRX Software.
Cleaning: Important to Holding onto Original Latent Performance • Wheels are self cleaning from Dry Dust and Dirt – laminar flow. • If VOC’s present, Wheels need to be ‘deep’ cleaned just like evap coils to maintain latent recovery performance. • It is easier and less risky to clean a wheel outside of the HVAC unit than within.
Cleaning Example – It can be done inside the unit or outside, but it must be done… • Wheel is accessed and segment is removed. • Segment is soaked in alkaline cleaner. • Segment is rinsed and drained. • Segment is dried and ready for use.
Airxchange studies of units operating in the field for up to 20 years show the following: In the ‘smoking years’ wheels needed annual cleaning in all but school applications. Today, wheels only need to be cleaned every 5-6 years due to environmental air pollution except: Casinos Bars/Restaurants Dry Cleaning/Hair salons Manufacturing Cleaning Frequency
