  3. Expectations • Treat others how you would like to be treated • Arrive on time to all lessons • Do not distract others • Be organised and meet deadlines • Complete tasks set

  4. Expectations (cont.) • Respect Others • Mobile phones shouldbe on silent • No food in lessons • Bottled water only • Pens and paper should be out to use • Bags on the floor not on the desk

  5. Learning Outcomes • Know dietary needs of individuals at different stages • Understand effects of unbalanced diets on the health of individuals • Know specific dietary needs of service users • Understand principles of food safety and hygiene

  6. Unit requirements • All work is assignments there are no exams • You can achieve a PASS, Merit or DISTINCTION

  7. Cont • If at any time you do not understand the work in the lesson or tasks that are set please ensure you ask for help. • This can be during the lesson or if you prefer at the end • Be reassured you wont be the only one who doesn’t understand (just the one brave enough to ask !)

  8. Assignments • Your completed work must be handed in with your assignment brief • In the folder you will be given • Ensure your name is on your work • Work should be word processed where ever possible • Reference list of sources used at the back of your work

Activity 1 • In small groups identify as many different food groups as you can • Discuss which are needed for a healthy diet and which should be eaten in small amounts • Identify what effect a poor /good diet can have on the following age groups • Pregnant women /mothers who are breast feeding /Babies /Children and adolescents /Adults /old age (65+)

  11. Activity 2 • Make a complete a food diary over the next week and bring it to the next lesson • Remember to be honest !
