  3. Positive Geotropism Parts of the plant grow towards gravity Usually seen in roots

  4. Negative Geotropism Parts of the plant grow away from gravity Usually seen in stems

  5. How does this happen? Caused by plant chemicals called hormones. Hormones move in the plant in response to gravity. Hormones change the direction of plant growth.

  6. A plant starts to grow

  8. Stems grow up ( - geotropism) Roots grow down ( + geotropism)
