Manufacturing in the U.P. • 22.3% of jobs in the region are manufacturing • Manufacturing wages and benefits exceed the average for all industries • With projected growth and retirements the U.P. will need 9,000 skilled workers by 2012 • Current projections show a shortfall of 3,000 skilled workers * Statistics provided by 2004 NMU White Paper

  10. An Engineers work environment… • work from 7:00 to 4:00 • work with people and by ourselves • work on computers and with equipment • Every day is different!

  11. CAD Drafting Careers • Associates Degree or Technical Training Required • Work closely with design engineers • Create solid models using sophisticated drawing software

  12. Welding Careers • Vocational Training Required • Blue Print Reading required • Advanced Weld training after High School is a plus • Many welders work with robots
