  2. What do we study in Semester 1? • Population changes, migration and gender • Inequalities in wealth and development • Climate change and soil degradation

  3. Assessment – for school reports • Class work & participation (20%) • Homework & quizzes (20%) • Essays & essay plans (30%) • Tests (30%)

  4. Work Expectations • Standard Level: min. 3 hours homework per week Higher Level: min. 4 hours homework per week • Unfinished work must be completed at home • Late work - marked down by 10% for every day it is not submitted. • Extensions – if you require one (e.g. due to sickness) talk to me at least 3 days before the work is due.

  5. External Assessment- for your I.B score in 2014 • 2 (SL) or 3 (HL) x Examinations in May/June of Y12 • Paper 1 – Core • Paper 2 – Optional Themes • Paper 3 – Globalization and….

  6. Internal Assessment- for your I.B. score in 2014 • Fieldwork – primary data collected in groups during one full day of investigation • 2,500 word report – based on data collected in groups, but collated, graphed and analyzed individually • 20 hours (including explanations, field-trip etc.) • Worth 25% (SL) or 20% (HL) of your score

  7. Every Lesson… • Be on time! • Bring: text book (IB Geography), folder, coloured pencils and a ruler to every class • Participate in class discussions • Show you’re are listening • Board = Paper

  8. Tips for success… • Buy a world map • Review your notes everyday • Read extra materials (on wiki and FB) • Get organized – weekly timetable, study space
