  4. Write down one thing you remember about Coraline’s Other Mother I’ve started the sentence for you. Write in your books… Coraline’s Other Mother is P: Coraline’s Other Mother is spiteful E: “ She picked Coraline up and pushed her into the dim space behind the mirror” A: This quote suggests that Coraline’s Other Mother is very cruel as her decision to punish Coraline in such a vicious way seems like an over-reaction. The word ‘pushed’ suggests that the Other Mother is being forceful and taking away Coraline’s freedom of choice.

  5. Coraline’s Other Mother is described as being dangerous. E: We can tell this from the use of the words “dark-red fingernails…curved and sharp.” A: the fact that she keeps her nails extremely long seems very scary, as if she could attack at any time and cause great pain with them. Added to this, the use of the word ‘Sharp’ leads the reader to imagine knife-like claws which could rip you to shreds in seconds.
