Your Role in Your Child’s Decision Step 2: Know your child’s interest & ability • Lower Secondary Science • Taught as 1 subject - with Biology, Chemistry and Physics components (Modular System) • Experiential learning with experiments focusing on understanding concepts Questions: Does he/she show interest in the subject? Does he/she do well for the subject? Does he/she have the right attitude? Bedok View Secondary School. “A School of High Standards, Quality Learning & Holistic Education."
Your Role in Your Child’s Decision Step 3: Know the differences in Upper Secondary Pure Sciences vs. Combined Sciences • Biology Chemistry and Physics • Focus on skills, processes, application of knowledge • 3 Science Practical Assessments (SPA) for each subject Questions: Can he/she cope with 3 Sciences? Pre-requisites? Is there any component he/she had problems with in Sec 2? Does he/she need the subject for entry into a specialised course in the poly or University? Bedok View Secondary School. “A School of High Standards, Quality Learning & Holistic Education."
Your Role in Your Child’s Decision Step 3: Know the differences in Upper Secondary Pure Sciences vs. Combined Sciences Combined Science (Physics, Chemistry) - Two Components in one subject • Each component will cover 3/4 of the pure science syllabus • Less depth in content • More emphasis on knowledge and understanding - 1 Practical Examination - end of Sec 4 Bedok View Secondary School. “A School of High Standards, Quality Learning & Holistic Education."
