  2. Les nombres ordinaux Numbers like first, second, third, fourth, fifth are used to rank persons or things-to put them in a given order. They are called ordinal numbers. In English, most ordinal numbers end in     « th ».

  3. Compare the following regular numbers and the ordinal numbers in French: 2 deux deuxième trois troisième 3 4 quatre quatrième

  4. Number + ième (6) six : six + ième - sixième (8) huit : huit + ième - huitième If the number ends in an « e » , drop the « e » and add ième. (4) Quatre quatr + ième = quatrième

  5. Exceptions (1) un(une) -- premier (première) (5) Cinq -- cinq +u + ième  cinquième (9) Neuf -- neuvième

  6. Ordinal numbers are adjectives that come before the noun. • C’est le sixième élève • C’est la deuxième clase. • C’est la première rue • C’est le quatrième jour.
