Some general trends in my CV • My research was in part published at the end of my PhD • I new ca. 1 year in advance about programs and deadlines • I had contact with researchers in France about potential projects • I had attended numerous conferences and workshops • I myself had several good ideas (at least I thought so) • I made sure some colleagues red my proposals before submitting • I never just submitted a proposal and sat back waiting for a reply (it takes ages, 6-12 months is normal)

  22. Important tips • Make sure you publish your thesis results ASAP • Make sure you know when deadlines are coming up • Research potential host institutions • Talk to people (meetings, workshops, field work) • Formulate your own (new!) research topics • Have a plan B, and a plan C
