5. Influence on Youth Causes The reality shows on MTV make our youth want to be just like the people they see on TV. They want to be just like the stars they see on their favorite shows. 7. GLAMORIZES “THUG LIFE” AND EXPLOITS WOMEN A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila MTV glamorizes thug life. In countless videos people’s favorite “artists” are shown committing illegal activities. This is not good for today’s youth. These people are their role models. The kids want to be just like their favorite “musicians” today. MTV exploits woman. Not just in music videos where they are seen “shaking their tail feather”, but also in the shows. The terribly scripted “reality” shows are filled with the exploitation of females. Exploitation occurs in many different shows such as A Double Shot at Love, Parental Control, and Next.

8. How MTV Ruined the Super Bowl According to Doug Hagin, a political writer for over a decade, MTV ruined the super bowl. Hagin says that most football fans do not even care about the halftime show, and were disgusted by “men wearing women's clothing, crotch grabbing rap star punks, stripping cheerleaders and Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake fondling each other during a duet.” This show ended with Timberlake exposing Jackson’s breast to the entire world. It was called a “wardrobe malfunction”. MTV hosted the halftime show of super bowl 38 and turned the widely watched game into something trashy and no longer family oriented. Hagin feels that though MTV and it’s performers did nothing illegal, it was still sleazy and classless. He also states that musicians should let their music speak for them, and not their actions. MTV snuck raunchiness into a show that parents were almost positive would not contain it. Hagin finally states that “Yes MTV has a right to do it, but they darn sure are dead wrong to do it.”

9. MTV Yesterday and Today MTV was first created in 1981. Premier video was “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles. From that point on, nothing but music video and award shows were played until 1992, with MTV’s first reality show, “The Real World”. Because ratings for “The Real World” were so high, the station became clogged with different reality shows. For 11 years, MTV was a music video exclusive channel with no reality show. People were satisfied, and very few actually hated the channel. Today, MTV is filled with only reality shows and the occasional overplayed song. The channel is much more of a bad influence today, as things that would have never been allowed on T.V. before are on now. MTV advertises sex, degradation of women , and illegal activities.
