  2. History The BPP was formed in Oakland , California. It was created in October 1966. The party was formed to stop the racism that were meant towards the blacks. The BPP were committed to a violent way to get their rights. They made physical actions to make people give them rights. For example on April 6, 1968 an armed confrontation between Black Panthers and police led to 90 minute confrontation at a building housing Panthers. Eventually , the panthers surrendered. Over the course of the day, at least four policemen were wounded and one killed.   3. Huey P. Newton Huey P. Newton was one of the leaders of the Black Panther Party (BPP). He created the Black Panther to have civil rights for all blacks. He was born on February 17 , 1942 in Monroe Louisiana. Monroe, Louisiana Huey P. Newton

  4. 10 Point Plan • The 10 step program was like the bible of The Black Panther. It listed all the rights the BPP wanted for all blacks. It gave the BPP the rights they deserved to continue on with their lives but with the rights they deserved. • 1. We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our Black Community. • 2. We want full employment for our people. • 3. We want an end to the robbery by the white man of our Black Community. • 4. We want decent housing, fit for shelter of human beings. • 5. We want education for our people • 6. We want all Black men to be exempt from military service.

  5. 10 Point Program Cont. 7. We want an immediate end to police brutality and murder of black people. 8. We want freedom for all black men held in federal, state, county and city prisons and jails. 9. We want all Black people when brought to trial to be tried in a court by a jury . 10. We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace.

  6. Bobby Seale Bobby Seale was the second founder of the BPP. He was born on October 22 , 1936. He was born in Dallas , Texas. He wanted rights just like Huey. So he helped create the BPP. Dallas , Texas Bobby Seale

  7. Huey Newton foundation The Huey P. Newton foundation was found in 1993 in Oakland California by Fredrika Newton and David Hilliard. The purpose for the foundation was to honor the Black panther Legacy. This foundation created programs. For example Free Breakfast program.

  8. Mission STATEMENT The Huey P. Newton Foundation is a community based, non profit research(for example sickle cell research with Oakland children hospital),and advocacy center for progressive social change.

  10. Malik zulu shabazz Malik Zulu Shabazz was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. His father, James Lewis, was a Muslim who was killed under mysterious circumstances when Shabazz was a child. his mother was a successful business women. His grandfather introduced him to the Nation Of Islam.
