  3. iN CONTEXT OF BHARATNATYAM

  4. SOME DISTINCTIVE FEATURES • Only one solo artist may perform the sanchari bit, even when the dance is done in a group because- • It leads to better understanding . • If 2 or more people attempt it becomes dance drama.

  5. Some distinctive features • As there are 33 sancharibhavas against 8 sthayibhavas(refer to chart) only the most apt ones must be selected for depiction of a particular situation.

  6. Some distinctive features • The main function of the sanchari concept is to provide an explaination for the sthayibhava(refer to table) being portrayed. • In bharatanatyam practice sancharis are special to numbers in which a story is to be told.

  8. Some distinctive features Sanchari may be performed to- • Repeated rendition of the verse line with variation in singing each time to convey the meaning of the line through various actions. B. To instrumental music alone without the accompaniment of song to narrate the story before or after what is conveyed through the verse line.

  9. Conclusion Thus we can conclude that the concept of sanchari is very useful in binding the artist perfroming the bharatanatyam recital to the audiences.
