  2. What is flipped pd? • When professional development content is… • Distributed in advance of a meeting • Delivered online • Viewed by faculty at their leisure • Differentiated

  3. Why should I flip PD? • Practice what you preach • “The moral of this story is that we CAN'T be surprised by teachers who run quiet classrooms where lecture is the norm and empowering learners is the exception when those same teachers sit silently listening in faculty meetings for decades on end.” • Save face-to-face time for dialogue • Differentiate • Choice • Voice • Reflection

  4. How can I flip PD? • Screenr.com • YouTube • Webinars • Agendas with information items & discussion points

  5. What is different about flipped pd? • “Many times administration believe they have the best ideas in order to help educators move forward and learn. When they decide the PD without teacher input, they are neglecting one important aspect of leadership, and one very big fatal flaw. Without including those getting the PD in the decision, administrators are not engaging their audience from the beginning and they are doing PD to teachers and telling them what they should learn.” • More time!

  6. Why did we flip? • Implemented TAP • Wide variety of needs • Honor our faculty’s time • Promote professional conversation

  7. What is a cluster meeting? • Required part of TAP • Minimum 1 hour meeting during planning period once per week • Focus on strategies, professional growth, and reflection • Based on a student achievement need identified through data • Clear outcome • Sufficient time for development for use in the classroom • Led by Master Teacher, co-led by Mentor Teacher, attended by Administration

  8. Want to know more about cluster and TAP? • Don’t Waiver on the ESEA Waiver – Maybe You Can TAP Your Way to Success • Dennis Dotterer & Mike Sinclair • 10:00 am • Carolina A
