WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Pretend you are working for: The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia. You have just been contacted by Washington, D.C. Reports have been issued stating there has been a large increase in cancer. You are a scientist working for the CDC and have been given the task of identifying a type of cancer, stating the causes, describing the symptoms, and outlining a prescribed course of treatment. As always, illustrations are extremely helpful in getting your information across.
TASK Your job as the Scientist working for the CDC is to research your assigned cancer. In order to help your country reduce the number of active cases, you need to be able to identify the symptoms of the disease, the cause of the disease, describe the effects the disease has on the body and state the course of treatment. They will use your information to improve the health of the American people.
PROCEDURE You will be assigned a type of cancer. • 1. Write the name of your cancer • 2. What causes this type of cancer? Are there risk factors that cause it? • 3. What are the symptoms of your cancer? • 4. What is the recommended treatment for your cancer? • 5. What are prevention tips if any? • 6. What resources did you use in your research?
Grading • Your paper must be at least one page long. • Must have complete sentences • You must answer all 6 questions thoroughly. • This project is worth 30 points. • You may include illustrations. Be creative.
