The Ecumenical Diaconal Year Network (EDYN) is a network of ecumenical Christian, voluntary service programmes that send and receive volunteers within Europe and world-wide. The programmes provide opportunities for full-time, long-term voluntary service in social and educational institutions, projects and church congregations. • 1. History of EDYN • Post war beginning: Diaconal Year in D • 1980‘s: loose relationship(F, B, S, NL, DK) • 1992: decision to create EDYN (Strassbourg) • 1993: first formal meeting of network: D, DK, NL, S, F, B, US, UK.Goal: 10% of vol‘s be foreign • 1994: membership in AVSO • EDYN helps chuches in I, PL, H, CZ, SL, RO develop vol service programs • 2003 1st multilateral project of EDYN RGDTS • 2005: Formal incorporation (in NL) • Members from other continenets  • Development of standards, formalization • 2008: establishement of EDYN office with ED in Budapest • 1. Goals of EDYN For the Volunteers: • Intercultural and ecumenic learning • Encourage awareness of social and political responsibility • Advancement on his/ her faith journey • Develop workplace skills • Grow in independance and maturity Generally: • Help individuals, groups, communities in need • Further the causes of justice, peace and the integrity of creation • Express faith through service • 1.
