  10. The confusing part • Even though you registered for the DATs you never picked a date • Before you can pick a date you will need the eligibility number (this is NOT your DENTPIN) that is emailed to you after you complete you registration for the DATs • Now you have to go to http://www.prometric.com/ADA/default.htm • Make sure it says ADA (American Dental Association) somewhere on the page

  15. Finally Picking the actual DATE • After you have chosen the location for your test you can pick the date! • As you will see there will be many possibilities as to when and what time you can take the DAT… so pick wisely!! • If you ever want to reschedule, you will have to pay an additional fee

  16. Almost DONE!! • After picking the date and time you will be asked for some personal information • Finally you will come to a page where you can review the information you have selected. Make sure it is correct before confirming your DAT Date! • You have now officially scheduled a DATE with the DATs

  17. THE AADSAS • So it’s June 1 and you are getting ready to fill out your AADSAS application?? • Did you do your homework to make your application process easier??

  18. What do you need to do before filling out the AADAS?? Before even beginning the application be sure to have made a list of all the extracurricular activities you have participated in Making this list will make one of the most tedious sections easiest to fill out This list should include: Dates Hours Description of activity: Don’t just put what you did also include what you learned! Also categorize them: research, academic enrichment, awards/honors, dentistry experience, extracurricular/volunteer, or work experience And guess what??? When you are doing your E-portfolios you have to make the same list

  19. Professional Developmental Worksheet • Does this look familiar??

  20. What else should you do? • Be sure have gotten a copy of your official transcript!! • There’s a section on the AADSAS app that asks you to manually put in all the classes you have and are taking thus far… If any of the abbreviations do not match your official transcript then your application will take longer to be processed!! • This means: DO NOT USE OWLNET OR DARS to input your classes and grades! • Also you have to categorize each class you have taken… follow the guidelines they have made: http://www.adea.org/dental_education_pathways/aadsas/Applicants/GeneralInstructions/Pages/Coursework2.aspx

  21. What your classes input should look like…..

  22. Want to do more? • To get ahead of the rest of the applicants make a list of your manual dexterity abilities • What in the world does this mean??? • It means making a list of everything you do which requires hand-eye coordination • This can include the simplest things such as: • Driving • Brushing your teeth • Writing • Playing Bball

  23. What more can you do to prepare? • Make sure you have all your letters of recommendation turned in to Ms. Neida Perez! • Make sure you went through the committee interview after you submitted your E-Portfolio because this is where you committee letter will come from!! • On the application there will be a section which asks you to list Evaluators! • Here you will only list Ms. Neida Perez and indicate that it’s an electronic committee letter. Also be sure to include her email so that she will be notified when you have submitted the application

  24. More Research • Be sure to research which schools you want to apply to • This means make an Excel sheet!! • Make sure you have back-up schools • The schools that you do chose make sure you fall within the GPA and DAT scores they are looking for!! • Why should you decide which schools to apply to?? • Because applying to all the dental schools is not only insane but it’s really expensive • Most applicants apply to 12-16 schools • Pick wisely!

  25. What to include when researching: • School name • Address • Email • Admissions Coordinator • Phone Number • When the supplementary applications open • Supplementary app fee • When this fee is due • Science GPA • Cum GPA • DAT • Tuition • Total Accepted • Preference • Deadline • Who to get letters from • Additional Classes?

  26. Here’s a Fee Schedule

  27. Last but not Least!! • Make sure you have your personal statement ready!! • This means get it read not once not twice but at least 4 times by different people • This is probably one of the most important sections on the application because it allows the admissions committee to know who you are and what inspires you • Length: 4,500 characters including spaces • What to cover: • Why you want to be a dentist • What will you do with dentistry • Talk about change!

  28. The Actual App • Go to this website on June 1!This is the day the application will open: https://portal.aadsasweb.org/ • You will first have to create a username and password using your DENTPIN. (This is the same DENTPIN you used to register for the DATs) • You will start the app by filling out personal and background information. Not a big deal pretty easy. • You will then use all of your prior work and simply type it into the appropriate sections… The application will be a piece of cake if you have already prepared for it

  29. Before Submitting • Before you submit your application, go through it one more time and make sure you have spelled everything correctly and that everything makes sense logically • If you want, even get a friend to look over your app • Also, be sure you have printed the matching transcript forms for each of the colleges you have attended • And make sure you have selected all the schools you want your application to go to • Finally say a little prayer and submit your application

  30. After Submitting • After you have paid for your app you will receive a confirmation email • Be sure to check your application after you have submitted it to make sure your letter of recommendation, transcripts, and DATs are received. • Your DAT scores will automatically be sent to your AADSAS application but will only be seen by the schools you chose when registering for the DATs.

  31. Finally You’re DONE! • Congratulations!! You have just submitted your application!! • Now you get to: • Start on Secondary Applications • Prepare for interviews! • Remember APPLY EARLY!!! • Start saving MONEY! Together the DAT and AADSAS can add up to over $1000 depending on how many schools you chose

  32. Thank you!! Any questions???
