IIIi – Forres (Macbeth’s palace) • Banquo suspects – “I fear thou play’dst most foully for ‘t.” • Macbeth invites Banquo to banquet that night and asks what he’ll be doing till then. • Banquo’s going riding and Macbeth wants to know if Fleance is going with him. 1. Why does he want to know this? • Macbeth – “To be thus is nothing, but to be safely thus.” 2. “Thus” refers to what? • Macbeth hires 2 killers

  3. IIIii – Forres • Lady Macbeth is worried. “Naught’s had, all’s spent, Where our desire is got without content.” 3. Interpret the preceding quote. • She asks Macbeth what’s up. Macbeth says, “Later, woman.” • IIIiii – near the palace • Banquo murdered; Fleance escapes • 4. Significance?

  4. IIIiv – Banquet in the palace • Murderer informs Macbeth • Banquo’s ghost jolts and haunts Macbeth • Macbeth appears crazy to guests. 5. “Why?” • “blood will have blood” • 6. What do you think Macbeth will do now to sort out his misgivings? • IIIv & vi – Witches (not in film) and news of Macduff (He’s in England with Malcolm) • 7. What marks the turning point of the play?
