Para comenzar – traduce los imperativos: Use the examples to think about how imperatives are formed for positive and negative commands to one person or groups of people. -Think also about how to make an imperative with a reflexive verb. • Levanta la mano • Put your hand up • Come la carne, está muy rica • Eat the meat, it’s really good • No hables así • Don’t speak like that • No vayas allí, es peligroso • Don’t go there, it’s dangerous • ¡Cállate! • Shut up! • Escuchad y repetid • Listen and repeat (to a group of people)

  2. The imperative Positive and negative commands in the tú (+vosotros) and usted (+ustedes) forms

  3. Tú – positive command This is formed by taking the 3rd person of the present tense of verbs e.g. Tomar - ¡Toma! Some important irregulars: Decir – di; Hacer – haz; ir – ve; oír – oye; poner – pon; salir – sal; tener – ten.

  4. Tú – positive command Stem changing verbs stay the same: Pensar - piensa Dormir – duerme Reflexive verbs: These work in the same way, but the pronoun is attached to the end: Lavarse – lávate Ducharse – dúchate

  5. Tú – negative command Use the present subjunctive: No tomes Stem changing: No pienses Reflexive – pronoun comes before the verb: No te duches No te laves

  6. Vosotros – positive command Change the ‘r’ to a ‘d’ on the infinitive: Tomar - Tomad Pensar – Pensad Reflexive verbs: -add ‘os’ to the end, but drop the ‘d’: Levantarse - Levantaos Sentarse - sentaos

  7. Vosotros – negative command Use the vosotros form of the present subjunctive: Tomar – No toméis Comer – no comáis Reflexive verbs – pronoun come before: Levantarse – no os levantéis

  8. Usted(es) – positive commands Use the present subjunctive 3rd person for usted: Tomar - Tome Pensar – Piense vaya Or the present subjunctive 6th person for ustedes Tomar – tomen Pensar – piensen vayan

  9. Usted – negative commands Use the present subjunctive 3rd person again for usted: No tome No piense No se duche Or 6th person for ustedes No tomen No piensen No se duchen

  10. ¿Qué se cocina? ¡Escribetuspropiasinstruccionesparacocinaralgo! Pon 2 rebanadas de pan en el tostador. Sácalos después de dos minutos, añade mantequilla y come con una taza de té. Fríe pollo, un pimiento rojo y una cebolla en un sartén. Añade especias mejicanas y sirve en una tortilla con queso y crema agria. Fríe beicon con cebolla y mucho ajo en un sarten. Al mismo tiempo cocina espaguetis en una cacerola. En una copa de aparte bate dos huevos con un poco de leche. Agrega todos los ingredientes y añade queso parmesano y pimiento negro.
