  3. OUR PROJECT Indonesia is a big country that consist of 30 provinces. Every province has specific folk tales. There are some ethnic groups live in Indonesia. They are Javanese 45 percent, Sundanese 14 percent, Madurese 7.5 percent, coastal Malays 7.5 percent, others 26 percent. Jakarta is a capital city of Indonesia. Jakarta, the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia, is a special territory enjoying the status of a province. The ethnic Jakartan called "Orang Betawi" speaks Betawi Malay, spoken as well in the surrounding towns such as Bekasi and Tangerang. This language has two variations: the conventional Betawi Malay and the modern Jakarta Malay. While the first is spoken by the elder people, born and bred in Jakarta, the second is spoken by the younger generation and migrants. Istiqlal Mosque Jakarta Bay

  4. Most of our students know about folk tales in Indonesia. They had tried to investigate the popular folk tales in Indonesia, through classroom discussion. They also got some ideas from other participants in this Learning Circle groups such as : Uraiwan Sritiwong, Thailand, We live in Chiang Mai. It's in the North of Thailand. People know it as the "Rose" of Thailand. Here, there are many local stories and folk tales in my hometown. But we love the story of "Wang Bua-Baan."   means the deep water near the bank of the river.  means lotus. Baan means glooming.  However, Bua-baan in the story is the name of a beautiful woman.         Wang Bua-Baan is the sad story. It's the story of a beautiful Chiang Mai woman who fell in love with a handsome policeman from Bangkok. Though there were a lot of men in Chiang Mai wanted to marry her, but she said no to them. Finally, she chose the policeman and live with him happily. She was a good wife, and he was a good husband.  One day a woman came from Bangkok, and said that she was the policeman's woman. They were going to marry. After that the handsome policeman left Bua-baan. She was very sad. Though there were a lot of man asked for marrying her, she still said no. It's because Chiang Mai woman was to marry one man and only once. So she went to Hua-kaew Waterfall. At the highest bank and deep water, she jumped down to make suicide.        Do you love my story? Most of us know Wang Bua-baan although it happen very long time ago. Our parents tell us to remind us keep ourself save from the people who we don't know them well, and to teach us we should have pay respect to love and someone we love.

  5. THE MOST POPULAR FOLK TALE AMONG OUR STUDENTS SANGKURIANG LEGEND Once upon the time, there was a family who lived in the regent of West Java. There lived Sangkuriang, his mother, and a dog. One day, mother ordered Sangkuriang to go to the forest to kill a deer and take its heart. But Sangkuriang didn't take the deer's heart, but killed his dog and took its heart. Then he went home and gave that dog's heart to his mother. His mother knew that it wasn't a deer's heart but it was dog's heart. His mother  was very angry and hit his head. The fact that, it was his father who had changed into a dog. His mother sent him out of their house. Two years later, Sangkuriang grew up. When he went around the forest, he met a beautiful girl. The was so beautiful and Sangkuriang fell in love with her. Actually the girl was his mother, but Sangkuriang didn’t know that. He wanted to marry her. His mother knew that he was her son so she asked him to make a boat before the sun rise. As soon as she asked him for this, he began to make the boat. He invited the genies to help him to do it. His mother saw that he had almost finished even though the sun hadn't risen. She husked the rice and let the rooster start to call. Sangkuriang was angry and kicked the boat and the boat became a mountain that now is known as Tangkuban Parahu Mountain in West Java.   Tangkuban Perahu Beach
