The outer group may not talk at all. • You are not allowed to judge what someone else has said, but at the same time make sure your comments are relevant. • Your grade will be determined by your level of participation. • Inner group: Did you make relevant (not silly) comments? • Outer group: Did you write relevant (not silly) responses with no talking?

  9. Questions to think about • 1. What does Robinson mean when he says of African Americans, “We go through like walking a tightrope to prevent too much disillusionment?” • 2. Rickey interpreted reports that Robinson had been a “racial agitator” at UCLA to mean that Robinson was a “contender, a competitor.” What made him think that? • 3. Consider the difficulties both Rickey and Robinson faced. Who showed the greater courage? Give reasons for your answer. • 4. Many saw Jackie Robinson as a role model for young people. Should we expect athletes to be role models, or should we judge them only on their athletic performance?
