CCC Student Mental Health Program • Partnership between CCC Chancellor’s Office & the Foundation for California Community Colleges • 4 main components: • Campus Based Grantees • Statewide Technical Assistance & Training • Suicide Prevention Training • Program Evaluation
Increase capacity to address the mental healthprevention and early intervention needs of students.
Health Awareness Outreach August 2012 – Kognito At-Risk Online Training Initiated (3 modules) April 2013 – Completion Rates after three major campaigns: • At-Risk Friends/Student Module 415 • At-Risk Faculty/Staff Module 61 • At-Risk Veteran’s Module 13

What is a Mental Health Ambassador? Mental Health Ambassadors: • Dedicate time to raise awareness about the importance of mental health. • Educate peers on how to engage in a positive conversation about mental health. • Promote the resources that are available for you to improve your quality of life.

Results… • 10 Ambassadors • Over 3,000 peer to peer conversations • Over 2,000 hours volunteered • Over 20 campus events • Trained almost 400 students in Kognito and QPR • Increased counseling appointments by over 200% • Had a lot of fun!
Where do we go from here? • Student Mental Health Advisory Council • A non-profit organization that was founded to ensure that each California Community College has a peer network that connects students with administration and psychological services. • Will be officially rolling out on March 29th at the 2014 Southern Regional Student Leadership Conference & Regional Mental Health Strategizing Forum at Riverside City College.
