US Customs, Symbols and Traditions Christmas is a Christian festival when the birth of Jesus, whom Christians believe to be the Son of God is celebrated.  December is an exciting month for many children around the world, as Christmas Day falls on the 25th of this month.  Christian communities around the world celebrate Christmas in different ways.

  4. US Customs, Symbols and Traditions Christmas traditions of the United States have come from blending the traditions and customs from many nations. Christmas carols can be about anything having to do with the holiday like the birth of Christ, Santa or even building a snowman. • The tunes or music to some Christmas Carols come from all over the world. • Silent Night was written in Austria. Popular Christmas Carols • Away in a Manger • The First Noel • Frosty the Snowman • Joy to the World • Grandma Got Run Over by A Reindeer A tree for Christmas came from Germany.

  5. US Customs, Symbols and Traditions Santa Claus, or St. Nick. in a red suit originate in Scandinavia. He was a religious man, really St. Nicholas His sleigh drawn by reindeer began in Switzerland. We, in turn, have fattened up the jolly old man in the red suit and blended all the traditions until he comes down the chimney on Christmas Eve, leaves gifts and stockings filled with treats and departs in a sleigh drawn by eight tiny reindeer
