  2. HIV/AIDS situation • Population about 26 million • 1 – 1.2 million affected • About 100,000 – 120,000 need ART • < 20,000 currently access ARVs • A multisectoral approach to HIV/AIDS control and management used

  3. Drugs available and used in the country • About fifty products currently registered • Lamivudine + Stavudine + Nevirapine • Lamivudine + Stavidine + !!! • Efivarenz, kaletra, Nelfinavir, ddl, AZT • Co trimoxazole prophylaxis encouraged

  4. HIV/AIDS management tools • Policy on HIV/AIDS management available • Accreditation criteria used to select facilities involved in HIV/AIDS management • Treatment guidelines for the management of HIV/AIDS present for both adults and children under five • Information to the public availed through all forms of media and IEC materials, NGOs, CBHW, PLWHA • Safety largely through product quality assessment and reports from clinicians, other HW & CBHW • Until recently reports were sent to the JCRC, this is being reviewed. The NDA & the ACP at the MoH to take lead in pharmacovigillance
