  2. Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) • http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/home • Let’s look at where CIDA does work.

  3. Third World Country: Countries with less than full economic development. • Second World Country: Developed countries using a command economy. • First World Country: Developed countries using a free market economy. • Emerging Economy – An country whose economy is experiencing significant growth and substantially increasing the standard of living.

  4. Some terminology • LDC – Least Developed Country: low national income, a high rate of population growth and unemployment, and dependence on commodity exports. • DC – Developing Country:Countries with more advanced economies than other developing nations, but which have not yet fully demonstrated the signs of a developed country • MDC – Most Developed Country: gross domestic product (GDP), the per capita income, level of industrialization, amount of widespread infrastructure and general standard of living.[

  5. Turn to a friend… • In two minutes decide with another classmate what a “developed country” would look like, sound like, smell like, feel like, taste like. • Yes, write it down?

  6. What does it mean to be developed?

  7. Let’s put all of these up on the white board. How would CIDA assist in the developing of another nation?

  8. Take the list on the board and choose the top 5 in order. Which of the things you mentioned would be a priority?

  9. Do we have a right to ask the developing world to be environmental?
