  2. WHAT IS THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION? The European Commission is the European Union’s executives who proposes legislation and represents and upholds the interests of Europe. The European Commission is located in Brussels, Belgium, and the Commission's President is Jose Barroso.

  3. THE ORGANISATION OF EUROPEAN COMMISSION • There are 27 Commissioners, one from each member state, selected by National governments. All Commission must then be approved by the European Union (EU) Parliament. • The President is chosen by the European Council to heat the results of the European elections then elected by the EU Parliament. • The President has the power to dismiss the commissioners. • There are 7 Vice-Presidents and one of which is the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. • Organised into deparments known as Directorates General, each responsible for a particular policy area and services. • The Commissioners don’t represent their National goverments, instead, they has responsibility for a particular EU policy area.

THE FUNCTION OF EUROPEAN COMMISSION • The European Commission confirms and protects the general interests of European Union. • The Commission manages daily the business of the EU. • The Commission executes the European Union budget. • Once a year, the Commission produces for the EU Parliament a “General Report on the Activities of the European Union”.

POWERS OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION • One of them powers, is the executive dominion of the European Union. • The European Commission proposes also legislation to Parliament and the Council of the EU. • The Commission administers EU law together with the Court of Justice. • The Commission’ other power is negotiate agreements between the EU and other countries.
