  1. CONTROLLING Presented by-Deepak krsingh

  2. Agenda Introduction Nature Importance

  3. Introduction Controlling is a process of monitoring performance and taking action to ensure desired results. It sees to it that the right things happen, in the right ways, and at the right time. Controlling consists of verifying whether everything occurs in conformities with the plans adopted, instructions issued and principles established. Controlling ensures that there is effective and efficient utilization of organizational resources so as to achieve the planned goals. Controlling measures the deviation of actual performance from the standard performance, discovers the causes of such deviations and helps in taking corrective actions

  4. According to E.F.L. Brech “Controlling is a systematic exercise which is called as a process of checking actual performance against the standards or plans with a view to ensure adequate progress and satisfactory performance.”

  5. According to Koontz “ the managerial function of controlling is the measurement and correction of the performance in order to make sure that enterprise objectives and plans devised to attain them are accomplished.”

  6. CHARACTERISTICS/NATURE OF CONTROLLING

  7. Controlling is a pervasive function- • which means it is performed by managers at all levels and in all type of concerns. • Controlling is a dynamic process- • since controlling requires taking reviewable methods; changes have to be made wherever possible

  8. . • Controlling is forward looking- • because effective control is not possible without past being controlled. Controlling always looks to future so that follow-up can be made whenever required. • Review of past events- • control leads to control of past activities. The deviations in the past are revealed by controlling.

  9. Action oriented- • It implies with the process of corrective measures. Action is the essence of control. The purpose of control is achieved only when corrective action is taken on the basis of feedback information. • Continuous process- • just like other functions of management, controlling is also a continuous process. It involves constant analysis of validity of standards, policies procedures etc

  10. IMPORTANCE OF CONTROLLING

  11. Helps in better coordination: Management and coordination of the business activities and workers is a very important role. It binds all the workers and their activities and motivates them to move towards the common objectives through coordination. Control will play the role of a middleman between the workers and management to provide the required information in time to the workers.

  12. (2) Helps in effective supervision: A systematic system of control helps in finding out the deviation existing in the organisation which also simplifies the task of the supervisor in managing his subordinates. So through control its becomes simpler for the supervisor to supervise and guide the workers to follow the right track and fulfill the required goals

  13. (3) Decentralisation of Authority: Control system helps the top management to extend the frontiers of decentralisation without the loss of control. When proper procedures, policies, targets, etc, are clearly communicated to the subordinates, they develop self-confidence and need not always refer to their supervisors with the problems

  14. (4) Control increases efficiency Efficiency is the relation between returns and cost. If there is a high return at low cost then there is efficiency and vice-versa. Control leads to high returns and low cost. Therefore, it increases efficiency.

  15. 5) Control minimises Wastage Control helps to reduce the wastage of human, material and financial resources. This increases the profits of the organisation.

  16. (6) Control ensures optimum utilisation of resources Control helps the organisation to make optimum utilisation of the available resources. This also increases the profit of the organisation.

  17. (7) Control helps to fix responsibility Control helps to fix responsibility of a particular job on a particular person or a particular department. So, if there are any mistakes then a particular person or a particular department will be held responsible for it

  18. (8) Control guides operations Control fixes certain standards. All the work has to be done according to these standards. So control, acts like a traffic signal. It guides all the operations of the organisation in the right direction

  19. (9) Corrective action- An efficient system of control provides the basis for future action. Taking corrective actions leads to modification in planning, organizing, staffing and directing

  20. (10) Decision making The process of controlling ends when corrective actions are taken. This involves making a right decision as to what type of follow up action to be taken.
