  3. His early life • 1942 - November 27, born in Seattle, Washington. • Started playing guitar as a teenager. • Was in the US army 1959-1961. • 1961 - Started playing music professionally.

  4. Developing Career • 1964 - moved to New York City and started supporting famous musicians such as B.B. King and Tina Turner • 1965 – Formed “The Jimi Hendrix Experience”

  5. Jimi moves to England • 1966 – starts working in England. • 1967 – “Hey Joe” released in the UK

  6. 1967 - Fame in the USA • Starts to become famous in the USA • Performs at the Monterey Pop Festival. • Starts touring around the USA

  7. The beginning of problems • 1968 – Has many arguments with different people, including band members • 1969 – ‘Experience’ breaks up, ‘Band of Gypsys’ is formed

  8. The final year - 1970 • Walks off stage at Madison Square Gardens. • August - last concert performed at the Isle or Wight Festival.

  9. His death • Died in a hotel in London. • Death due to mixture of barbiturate pills and alcohol. • Date of death –September 18, 1970, London, England
