Program Accomplishments Current Market Penetration: • 13 billion sq. ft. in partnership (19% of all commercial buildings) • 29,000 buildings rated in Portfolio Manager (1,100 hospitals) In 2005, ENERGY STAR helped Americans achieve: • Energy cost savings = $12 billion • GHG reductions = 23 million cars

Why Manage Energy? • Hospitals are the 2nd most energy-intensive commercial space-type • U.S. hospitals spend $8.5 billion* a year on energy • DOE predicts energy costs will continue to climb *CBECS 2003 www.doe.gov

Sacred Heat Medical Center (WA) • $750,000 investment in efficient lighting • 2-3 year pay back period • T-8 lamps with electronic ballasts • LED exit signs • CFLs ENERGY STAR rating: 79

Albuquerque Indian Hospital • Training is a major focus of energy efficiency efforts • Attend 3 training courses each year ENERGY STAR rating: 87 • Trained to use controls systems • Routine (daily & monthly) preventative maintenance checks

Shriners Hospital for Children Houston, Texas • Funded through donations • New hospital, but technology didn’t perform • Established baseline using ENERGY STAR Rating System • Gross reduction of 24% savings that went directly to the bottom line 88 75 42 ’01 ’03 ‘04
