  7. Political • Centralized states to govern their territory • Russian princes were allowed to rule their own cities for tribute payments • Fyodor, Ivan’s son, was a weak ruler and failed to mend divisions his father created

  11. Social • Mongols were divided when Ivan came into power in 1462 • Ivan conquered Mongol lands, instituted reforms, and fought feudalism • Ivan had thousands killed by secret police force • In 1613 Russia recovered from the social divisions created by Ivan

  13. Decline of Russia • Around twenty million people were treated horribly and given no rights, and lived in poverty • The people then revolted against the leaders of Russia which led to the fall • As Russia tried to move forward and modernize the social system failed to keep up
